STIMULATE YOUR LOCAL ECONOMY!! Shop and support ALL your local small growers & greenhouses. The more successful we all are, the wider your choices for quality plants and services! Help us keep the Green Industry growing in the Sauk Valley! Remember: big-box stores' garden centers are like fast food. They may have something that will fill you for a while...but not last long. |

HAPPY SPRING, SAUK VALLEY!! We launch into our 7th Year of providing you with the finest selections of specialty annuals, fine young perennials, tropicals, unusuals.....and so much more in 2012! Please see our FAQ's page - link to the left - for general questions about our business. However, there's a few things that need to be here on the home page at this time of year for you: Q: How come you don't have a FaceBook Page - it could really help your business. A: We strongly believe in privacy when being online. We also will not give, sell or trade your information with any of our vendors or contacts. FaceBook collects data without you knowing it......and then sells the data to the highest bidders (more or less). You can find out more about them if you surf the web (carefully, mind you) for information. Q: Have you thought of upgrading your web-page and making more options available? A: We prefer to leave the whiz-bang webPages to those who have the time, interest and the money to keep up with them. Our priority is producing quality plants for you - that, in and of itself, takes a LOT of time and cash. We update our webPage here usually seasonal or as time permits. Q: Can I purchase my plants now (say, April teenth) and just pick them up mid-May when planting season is in full swing? I don't want you to run out of this or that before I can make it in. A: Our policy since we opened our doors 7 years ago has remained the same: You are welcome to purchase you plants, but you must take them with you when you leave. Cost of greenhouse space is calculated on a 'per square foot' basis which makes it very expensive overall. While its true that we do run out of certain favorite crops, know that we are unable to just 'get more'- as we have produced them ourselves. We have every confidence in YOU, our customers....to know when it is time to plant, hang, water and pinch. Each year we make a special effort to let people know that if they have a specific request for something the following year (2013 in this case)......we need to know about it by the time the Holiday season, 2012 is upon us. That's how regular 'real' greenhouses work! :) Q: I'm so anxious to get my beds planted. When should/can I get that underway? A: The National Weather Service (NOAA) has been collecting data for our area for years. THE AVERAGE LAST FROST DATE for this part of Illinois is APRIL 26th (note the word 'average' - this means the late date they used in calculations is MAY 12th). PATIENCE is always our most valuable garden tool. YES! WE WILL AGAIN HAVE GREAT SWEET-POTATO STARTS FOR YOU! Fully-rooted and sold in 4-packs. If you have not tried them in your vegetable garden - wow. Our selections of WARM SEASON crops such as Tomatoes, Peppers and many herb varieties will be available generally after May 1st (see the last question above about patience - relax, smile and enjoy the beautiful Spring weather!) PUNCH-LIST FOR NOW: 1) Shop for your seeds (local places run out fast - consider catalogues) 2) Begin taking care of your grass - reseed, rake some, mow as needed 3) Make your soil amendments to your garden beds. Rototill (hardware store rents them cheap) and allow several rainfalls to occur to work the new amendments into the soil. 4) Plant your COOL SEASON crops such as lettuce, broccoli, peas....and you can begin getting your potatoes in. |
